Lot no. 1770
Johann Conrad Seekatz (1719 Grünstadt - 1768 Darmstadt) attr;
The Birdcatchers
A finely nuanced, fluidly executed, sensitively characterised genre painting whose motif Seekatz executed several times, cf. the version painted in 1750 in the Historisches Museum der Pfalz in Speyer (inv. no. Under the influence of Dutch and Flemish Baroque painting, Seekatz favoured small-format panel paintings, including genre scenes from rural life and landscapes enlivened by religious and mythological motifs. Oil on canvas, relined. 35.5 cm x 28.5 cm. Frame.
Provenance: Sale Sotheby's London 03.07.1996, lot 205; liquidation of an important German private collection - part II.
Attributed to Johann Conrad Seekatz (1719 - 1768). Oil on relined canvas.
