The reverse glass paintings of the 18th century were often modelled on engravings that were published as collections by large publishing houses at the time and were therefore widely distributed and readily available. Johann Creszenz Meyer frequently used the so-called illustrated Bible of the Old and New Testaments, which was edited by Philpp Andreas Kilian in Augsburg. Cf. a painting left behind by Meyer on the story "Jael kills Sisara" with a template by Kilian: ed. Swiss Research Centre for Stained Glass Romont. Highlights. The art of reverse glass painting. Romont 2000. pp. 136-139, no. 69.
