Johann Daniel Bager (1734 Wiesbaden - 1815 Frankfurt am Main) Rare series of four cabinet pictures with rural figures Depictions of young men and women in predominantly poor clothing or in front of corresponding dwellings, including a woman with her boy releasing a bird in front of her hut, conceived as counterparts and executed in a finely glazed style. Bager came from a widespread family of artists in Wiesbaden. A versatile portrait, genre, landscape and still life painter, he moved to the nearby, flourishing city of Frankfurt am Main, where he quickly became a sought-after artist who was commissioned to paint works by Goethe's respected father, among others.
