Johann Georg Meyer von Bremen. (1813 Bremen - 1886 Berlin) Peasant Girl at the Well A finely painted work with an atmospheric genre scene, characteristic of Johann Georg Meyer von Bremen in terms of motif and style. The artist studied at the Düsseldorf Academy under Wilhelm Schadow and Karl Ferdinand Sohn from 1833. He maintained his own studio in Düsseldorf from 1841 to 1852 and became an honorary member of the Bremen Art Association in 1843. Based in Berlin from 1852, he was appointed professor by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV in 1854. As one of the most talented and successful genre painters of his time, he specialised in idealised, contemplative, homely, idyllic family scenes as well as sensitive, mostly small-format depictions of children's lives, which were very popular as far away as London and the USA. Oil on canvas; l. a. indistinctly signed a. dated. 1847. 61 cm x 48 cm. Original frame. Oil on canvas. Indistinctly signed and dated 1847. Original frame.
