Portrait of King Frederick II of Prussia with a tricorn hat set down in salute
Representative bust portrait in uniform, with tricorn hat and breast star of the Order of the Black Eagle, depicting the king after the Seven Years' War. The depiction is based on Franke's famous painting from around 1764, versions of which are preserved in the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (GK I 30089) and in the German Historical Museum in Berlin. In addition to the artist himself, who held an important position as court painter, his workshop also produced a series of replicas up to around 1780. Oil on canvas; 67.5 cm x 58 cm.
