Johann Nepomuk Mayrhofer (1764-1832) was a renowned Austrian painter who specialised in botanical painting. He is particularly well known for his collaboration with the botanist Franz von Paula Schrank on the Flora Monacensis, a major work illustrating the spontaneous plants around Munich.
This publication, published between 1811 and 1818, consists of four richly illustrated volumes. Mayrhofer produced around 400 lithographs, depicting local plants with remarkable scientific accuracy. The work was printed in Munich, in Hermann Mitterer's lithographic workshop, on the lithographic press of Alois Senefelder, a pioneer of this technique.
