Johann Peter Krafft (1780 Hanau - 1856 Vienna) Portrait of Maria Anna Julia Countess Gyulay, née Freiin von Edelsheim, wife of Ignác (Ignaz) Count Gyulay Representative Biedermeier portrait of the noblewoman with pearl jewellery in a dark blue dress, painted around 1825 to 1829. In addition to being a highly esteemed portraitist, Krafft also gained a reputation for his monumental history paintings. Krafft studied at the Vienna Academy from 1799, followed by a two-year study visit in 1802, during which Jacques-Louis David and François Gerard had a lasting influence on him.
