JOHANN VALENTIN SONNENSCHEIN (1749-1828) Painted in wax. Depiction of the Seckelmeister Karl Albrecht Frischings. The base probably by Johann Friedrich II Funk. Fluted wood, painted white and partly gilded. Later glass dome with brass edges. Figure h 32.5 cm. Plinth 44.5 × 44.5 × 13 cm. Losses and restorations. The table supported by nails. Provenance: - Rudolf von Frisching. - By inheritance in a private collection in western Switzerland. Compare illustration of the same subject by Sonnenschein in: Hermann von Fischer. Fonck A Berne. Bern, 2001. p. 276, fig. 538. The Bernisches Historisches Museum (inv. no. H/6165) owns a piece identical in every detail to the depiction by Karl Albrecht Frisching from 1786 (cf. Dr Mechthild Landenberger. Johann Valentin Sonnenschein as a modeller of the Ludwigsburg porcelain manufactory A stylistic-critical study. 1958, Keramik-Freunde der Schweiz Mitteilungsblatt no. 44 pl. IV fig. 12).
