Josef (Joseph) Wopfner (1843 Schwaz in Tyrol - 1927 Munich)
Hay boat making a stormy crossing on Lake Chiemsee
Painted in a rapid style around 1914 by the famous Chiemsee painter. Wopfner studied at the Munich Academy from 1864 to 1872 under Carl Theodor von Piloty, among others, and became friends with Wilhelm Leibl during this time. In 1872, he discovered the landscape of the Chiemgau with its largely unspoilt nature, the Chiemsee, the local fishermen and farmers as the most important motifs of his work from then on. From then on, he regularly spent the summer months on Fraueninsel to capture the lake in all its different moods. In 1890, Wopfner was honoured with a gold medal at the exhibition in Munich's Glaspalast. Oil on canvas; signed a. with location Munich. 37 cm x 62 cm. Frame.
