Lot no. 53
Josef STAUB (1931-2006), "Allegra" (2000), sculpture in brushed stainless steel, monogram stamp "ST 2000", unique piece. H. 82 x 20 cm; total height with smooth concrete base: 155.5 cm. Galerie Schlegl, Zurich, Swiss private collection Brushed stainless steel, tiny superficial scratch in the centre, very good overall condition With its slender lines and pure form, Allegra is a perfect illustration of Josef Staub's sculptural research into movement, balance and spatial tension. The brushed stainless steel surface subtly captures the light and accentuates the variations in curve of this vertical form, whose momentum seems suspended in space. At once minimal and organic, the sculpture develops a particularly contemporary silent and architectural presence. The contrast between the fluidity of the polished steel and the stability of the concrete base further enhances the visual balance of the whole. This unique large-format piece bears witness to the refined approach developed by Josef Staub in his mature works, on the borderline between sculpture, design and spatial intervention.
