Wants to set the record straight with Las Cases on the subject of a detail from his youth: his great-uncle predicted on his deathbed to Napoleon "that he would be an Uomone (a great man) without him needing to ravaller me in anything, nor any of my other brothers". He himself was busy writing his memoirs and intended to respond to the slander that had been spread about him. He asks his uncle to send him notes or letters from his father and Napoleon and books on Corsica still in Ajaccio, in particular "a little work I wrote in 1787 or 8, entitled Lettres de Pascal Paoli à ses compatriotes". 15th December. He continues, in his own handwriting, after receiving a letter from his mother announcing the death of Lucien's daughter [Jeanne, who died in Jesi on 22 September], and assuring her of Lucien's goodwill towards his children. As for himself, he was ready to sell his paintings, including a Saint Sebastian, for twenty thousand dollars; "I have a similar masterpiece here by Mengs, another by Murillo; the first is a nativity, the second a Saint John the Baptist. This is all my capital, and I will also give them for the same price"... 30th December 1830. He sent a copy of the letter he had sent to the Chambre des Députés, when he was still unaware of King Louis-Philippe's appointment (9 August), which had not been published. This made him reconsider his situation: "I am waiting for news from various parts of Europe before deciding whether to leave this country or stay". He wonders whether Lucien and Jérôme have also taken steps and awaits his uncle's advice. The second part of the letter concerns the purchase of shares "in an accredited newspaper in order to have a means of repelling the calumny that blackens us all with impunity"...
