Joseph BONAPARTE. 5 minutes of letters (3 signed with an initials), Point-Breeze 1830-1831 10 pages in-4. Set of family letters, about Napoleon II. To his sister Caroline. - 19 September 1830: "Your children are in Florida [...] I learned of the events in Paris up to 4 August, [...] it would be good to see the Prince of Metternich and even the Emperor, they are quite blind if they do not see that the interests of Austria, France, Italy and the tranquillity of Europe call for his grandson in France. I am prepared for this, I await only one opinion, that Austria will allow Napoleon II to come"... He mentions the death of the King of Naples... - 20 September: he wrote to the Empress Marie-Louise, the Emperor of Austria and Prince Metternich"... To his daughter Zénaïde. 9 November 1830. He rejoiced at the birth of his grandson. During the July revolution, Louis de Girardin "proposed the proclamation of Napoleon II in the assembly which decided the question in favour of the Duc d'Orléans, at Mr Lafitte's where Sebastiani showed himself to be our most cruel enemy, his example was pernicious for Napoleon II"... To the Queen of Sweden (her sister-in-law Désirée Clary). 19 November 1830: "The news of the events of July seemed to me at first to open the doors of France to me [...] I soon realised that I had judged too favourably the events which followed the popular movement of the 3 days of July; intriguers took hold of it and exploited it to their advantage, neither divine law nor national law were any longer of any consequence"... To H.I.H. Madame Mère. 27 December 1831: "the wishes of France are favourable to us, the nation does justice to Napoleon, & his son will end up governing France with the liberality which was in the foresighted hope of his father", whose words he quotes... 6 engraved portraits are included.
