Chaumet certificate of authenticity, November 2024. Provenance: From a great French aristocratic family, this tiara of fine pearls and diamonds was part of the wedding basket of the grandmother of the current owners. The beautiful family jewellery box we are presenting here includes a magnificent wedding basket from Chaumet, dated January 1922 and containing a pearl and diamond tiara, a diamond rivière and a fine pearl necklace. By looking at the certificate of authenticity issued by Chaumet for the tiara, we were able to delve deep into their archives at the end of 1921 and follow the trials and tribulations of a young girl and her family as they chose the centrepiece of her wedding basket, a tiara. We discover that the jeweller presented various models and that once the choice had been made on a tiara made in 1910, a few modifications were made to ensure that the jewel perfectly reflected the bride-to-be's desires, while respecting a precise budget given by the family. Thanks to the instructions annotated in the order book, we discover that the top row of the chosen pearls was replaced by an alternation of baroque pearls and diamonds for a more poetic effect. Some of the stones and pearls were supplied by the family, from older items of jewellery such as rings or a river of diamonds. It is very rare to be able to retrace the exact history of a piece of jewellery, from its conception to its last owner, and for it to reach us in such a perfect state of preservation. This is why we would like to extend our warmest thanks to Ms Violaine Bigot, Director of Heritage at Chaumet, first and foremost for drawing up this comprehensive certificate of authenticity, but also for her kindness and for having so faithfully retraced the history of this sumptuous tiara.
