As a multiple winner of the state Rome Prize, he completed several study visits to Italy between 1939 and 1941. In 1946 he had his first solo exhibition at the Fókusz Gallery, Budapest. In 1954, Breznay married the painter Mária Gánóczy. The four girls and five boys who emerged from the union all studied fine arts.
