The Dresden sculptor Rudolf Löhner (1890 - 1971) is best known for his animal sculptures. He studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1908 to 1911, was a master student of Georg Wrba and was taught by August Gaul. The Meissen manufactory acquired several animal models by Löhner between 1911 and 1913, including a group of panthers, a leopard and a young lion. The juggling sea lion is a rare mould.
