Lot no. 64
Jules BARBEY D'AUREVILLY. L.A.S., Monday 9 March [1885], to Octave Mirbeau 2 pages and a half in-8 in red ink, with his motto Never more. His 'very dear and too invisible friend Monsieur Mirbeau' has received 'the first volume of the charming works' of the Comte de Molènes, which his wife the Comtesse is publishing with Jouaust, and for which Barbey wrote the preface. "She knows that you are one of the few friends - and perhaps the only one - that I have in the press and she asked me to ask you for an article either in Le Gaulois or in La France. I am therefore asking you, without any embarrassment. [...] May I still feel that you are my friend in the friendship I had for another, because I knew de Molènes intimately, and he was what you and I love, that is to say: a hero. He enclosed his two latest publications, Les Vieilles Actrices and L'Amour impossible.
