Jules-Émile Zingg (1882-1942) Landscape Oil on panel signed lower left 50 x 70 cm Condition report: Framed Jules-Émile Zingg was a French painter who trained in the studio of Félix-Henri Giacomotti at the École des Beaux-Arts in Besançon, then in the studio of Fernand Cormon at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1914, he met Maurice Denis and Paul Sérusier in Brittany. Two years later, he met Édouard Vuillard at the front. Following this meeting with the members of the Nabi stable, his painting evolved and synthesised. In his landscapes, Jules-Émile Zingg sought to express the beauty of the rural world and make painting a witness to his time by capturing "all that nature can express that is hardest, harshest, most desolate".
