Lot no. 39
Jules LISMONDE (1908-2001)
Untitled, ink drawing, signed and dated 74 lower left, 24 x 16 cm.
Note: After his beginnings in oil, Lismonde devoted himself to drawing and etching, favouring the expression of black and white. As early as 1934, Jean Groffier emphasised the "grey melancholy" of an artist who was more of a draughtsman than a colourist. Although independent, in 1945 he joined the Jeune Peinture Belge and the Cap d'Encre group. In the 1930s and 1940s, he produced numerous charcoal portraits of figures such as Luc Indestege, Maurice Carême, Constant Burniaux, Marcel De Corte, Léon Van Dievoet and Charles Dehoy.
