Note:
Recognised as one of the most talented silversmiths of the 19th century, Jules Wièse completed his apprenticeship in Berlin before moving to Paris in 1821. Initially working in François-Désiré Froment-Meurice's workshop, he began developing his own creations in 1844, giving free rein to his imagination which was imbued with the trends of the time, from Antiquity to the Middle Ages and foreign folklore.
He sculpted his jewellery, covering it with enamel and fine stones, and like other talented goldsmiths such as Frédéric-Jules Rudolphi, he enjoyed great success at the Universal Exhibitions in Paris and London. However, he stood out for his realism and his more pronounced taste for the Neo-Gothic style.
