Julius Olsson. (1864 Islington/London - 1942 Dalkey near Dublin) Rocky coast with surf waves in the morning light Large, impressionistic work painted with a strong impasto application of colour, characteristic in motif and style of the marine painter and passionate sailor. Olsson, who first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1890, was one of the most important personalities of the artists' colony in St Ives in Cornwall from 1890 to 1912 and taught numerous painters there himself. Olsson returned to London in 1912, became an associate member in 1914 and a full member of the Royal Academy in 1920. Oil on canvas; signed l. and w.; 102 cm x 128 cm. Frame. Oil on canvas. Signed.
