Lot no. 77
KAKEJIKU
a colour painting on silk, depicting the deity Kasuga Aka-dôji (The Red Child of Kasuga), a figure arising from Shinto-Buddhist syncretism, venerated at the Kasuga Shrine in Nara, which houses the original image from which this painting appears to have been copied. On the reverse, an inscription, possibly ‘Kose’, the name of a very old family, perhaps a former owner.
(Minor restoration work in the upper section, soiling, small creases, signs of wear).
