After working as a teacher at the Academy, Kamba Luesa left teaching in 1981 to join the Institute's archives department, which he later abandoned to become a freelance artist. He quickly became known for his unique style and began creating postcards before his studies in Kinshasa. He was the only student to take part in an exhibition organised by his teachers in 1972 to mark René Berger's visit to Zaire.
