Karl August Gan (1836-1899) founded the 'K.Gan' company in St Petersburg in 1873, which had a workshop producing gold and diamond objects. From the 1880s onwards, the company fulfilled orders from the Imperial Court and, in 1893, was honoured as a supplier to the Imperial High Court. The 'K.Gan' company is renowned for its exceptional artistic jewellery decorated with richly coloured enamels and precious stones. Among its most remarkable works - a replica of Empress Maria Feodorovna's crown, made for the coronation of Alexandra Feodorovna, the Order of St Andrew in diamonds, a kokoshnik in diamonds - all are masterpieces of the art of jewellery making.
