Expressive, dynamic work by Kluth, who studied at the Karlsruhe Academy under Albert Haueisen and was a master student of August Babberger. In 1922, he moved to Hamburg and became a member of the Hamburg Secession. In 1929 and 1934, the artist travelled to Edvard Munch for a collaboration.
