Lot no. 2891
Karlheinz Oswald (born 1958 Worms, based in Zurich and Locarno since 2007) "Dancer study". Original title Bronze, dark patina, 1991/1992, signed, dated and numbered 3/6. Dancer standing on an irregularly edged plinth resembling a stone slab, in which the legs, clothing and body with the head stretched backwards and the horizontal arms are fused into a single arc of tension. Oswald's characteristic sculpture in terms of motif and style, in which the depiction of the human figure between figuration and abstraction stems directly from the model's creative process. Oswald heightens the expressiveness of his work with his characteristic highly animated, relief-like, rough surface. Oswald studied sculpture in Mainz from 1981-1990 under Werner Durth, Heinz Hemrich and Peter Lörincz. He received the Daniel Henry Kahnweiler Prize for his work as early as 1985, which was followed by numerous awards and exhibitions. In addition to smaller works, he has created numerous pieces for public spaces, squares and parks. One focus of his work is dancers, for whom he undertook intensive studies with dance companies. H. 106 cm. Cf. "Karlheinz Oswald. Plastisches Werk 1984-1994", with text by Hans-Jürgen Imiela, Galerie Depelmann Edition, Langenhagen 1996, p. 82, no. 122 with illus.
