KEPI attributed to General Jean de LATTRE de TASSIGNY in fine khaki cloth, chinstrap embroidered with gold piping, 5 small silver stars on the forehead, leather visor with waxed canvas piping, beige leather inner band with the initials "JLT" in aluminium, black satinette cap, large size (60-61). Circa 1945-1950. BE Jean de LATTRE de TASSIGNY (1889-1952) From the "Mauritanie" class; Graduated from S-Cyr in 1909 and joined the cavalry school in Saumur, in the 12th Dragoons in 1914, wounded twice, he joined the 93rd RI with which he fought the whole war, after which he left in 1921 for Morocco, promoted brigadier general in 1939 - Chief of Staff of the 5th Army in January 1940 - He commanded the 14th DI in Rethel during the German offensive in May 1940, moved to the southern zone and was arrested in 1942, escaping in September 1943. On 11 November 1943, he was promoted to army general by General de Gaulle, whom he joined in Algiers. General de Lattre de Tassigny then led the 1st Army until the end of the war. Chief of the General Staff of National Defence and Inspector General of the Army in March 1947, he became Inspector General of the Armed Forces in 1948 and then High Commissioner in Indochina. He died prematurely of illness in January 1952 and was posthumously made Marshal of France.
