Paris, Prault, 1771. In-4, marbled calf, triple gilt fillet, smooth spine, spotted edges (Binding of the period). First edition of the account of the first voyage of Kerguelen (1734-1797), who was given command of the frigate La Folle by the Duke of Praslin to protect the French cod fishery off Iceland. His account is illustrated with 18 plates, mostly fold-outs, including 14 maps, plans and coastal views and 4 illustrations by Charles Eisen, depicting an Icelandic lady's costume, a Finnmark inhabitant fighting a bear, Samoyeds on skis and a Lapp in a sledge.
