Lot no. 115
KESSEL (Joseph).
The Jews and Bolshevism.
Autograph manuscript, signed in fine, undated (1920?). 18 large recto ff. (22.5 x 28 cm), numbered, folded; in a mailing (torn) from Mercure de France, at his address 28 rue de Rivoli (Kessel lived there from 1914 to 1921).
Very accomplished manuscript, with few erasures, of a speech or article. Of Russian origin and a Jew himself, Kessel was opposed to Bolshevism. In this long analysis, he denounces the simplistic thesis that "Bolshevism was purely Jewish in conception and execution; it was the forced work of vague social doctrines of a handful of unrealistic adventurers with no connection to the country". Interesting account of the social and economic history of the Jews in Russia.
Lower margin of f. 11 cut out.
