Lot no. 47
KESSEL (Joseph). [Short story]. Autograph manuscript, unsigned, undated (ca. 1920?). 12 manuscript pages on 4 in-8 notebook pages folded at the top) and 1 in-8 f., (ca. 11 x 17 cm). Complete handwritten draft, with few erasures, written in ink and sometimes in pencil, on a combination of various leaves. A short story tinged with irony, recounting the passage of the young Regnon (at the beginning of the manuscript, he is called "Regnol") into the Dupaton family as a repetiteur; Kessel, in the final punchline, seems to relish a certain generational conflict and gives pride of place to youth. Perhaps a work of youth.
