Lot no. 1
A kiosk, enclosed gloriette or pavilion originating from the 1894 Lyon Universal and Colonial Exhibition, made of moulded and carved softwood, with terracotta panels, glazed tiles and zinc. Square in cross-section with cut-off corners, it is adorned with terracotta panels from the Bourgogne works in Montchanin, dated 1894. This gloriette was exhibited at the 1894 Lyon Universal and Colonial Exhibition. Open and topped with a bulbous roof at the time of the exhibition, it was, at the beginning of the 20th century, enclosed by four arched panels and doors fitted with coloured glass panes and was then topped with a square-section, eight-sided roof. H: 6 m L: 5 m externally and 3.70 m internally. Parts of the lintels are damaged. A cracked terracotta spandrel tile. The roof was re-thatched around 2000–2003. It rests on a concrete plinth and is secured by bolts. On 21 June 1894, whilst visiting the Lyon World’s Fair, President Sadi Carnot was assassinated by an Italian anarchist. ITEM SOLD BY DESCRIPTION
