KISLING (Moïse) - HÉRON DE VILLEFOSSE (René). The Bohemian Epic. S.l. Aux dépens d'un amateur, [1959]. - In-folio, 380 x 280: (2 blank ff.), 146 pp. (5 ff. last 4 blank), cover with reproduction of a score by Erik Satie. Leaves, filled cover, publisher's grey cloth slipcase. Beautiful edition with a preface by Jean Giono, published by Bernard Klein. It is illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Kisling after MODIGLIANI, and 18 compositions by Moïse KISLING (1891-1953), 12 of which are reproduced in colour (10 full-page and 2 in the text) by D. Jacomet and 6 woodcuts by Pierre Bouchet (5 lettering and a cul-de-lampe). Bouchet also printed the text. The cover includes a reproduction of the score of Érik Satie's air de la vie de Bohème. One of the first 30 copies on Japon nacré, including a suite of colour reproductions on Hollande vellum, a suite of lettering on chine, an original copperplate and an original etching on a double sheet (no. 29). Contrary to what the justification indicates, the etching is not numbered here. The chine suite is preserved in a hand laid paper folder, on which Satie's score appears. Inside is also a print on vellum pur fil of the portrait of Modigliani, not mentioned in the justification. The suite of black plates is missing, and was also absent from the only other copy of the first edition that we were able to locate. A few scattered brown spots.
