Small Louis XVI figural pendulum by François Vion Bronze, finely chiselled and fire-gilt or partially brown patinated. A rectangular base with a palmette frieze and lavish drapery work on paw feet, surmounted by a canted clock case with a curved, rising upper end and a crown in the form of a pair of doves, flanked by fully sculpted genii of war and love. Glazed, dam. Enamelled dial, marked Noël Baltazar à Paris. Pendulum movement with thread suspension and half-hour strike on bell. Plate also marked Noël Baltazar. H. 31 cm. 22 cm x 11 cm. Cf. Ottomeyer/Pröschel, p. 180 and Tardy, p. 26. Provenance: from the Michahelles Collection, Hamburg, which has grown over generations. A small French gilt and patinated bronze Louis XVI mantel clock. Dial damaged. Strikes half hour on a bell. France. Paris. Late 18th century.
