Autobiographical novel from the time of the Civil War. Dedicated to his wife, the surgeon Nadezhda Alekseevna Dobrovolskaya-Zavadskaya (1878-1954). Veniamin Valerianovich Zavadsky (pseudonym V. Korsak; 1884-1944) was a writer who took part in the First World War and the Civil War and emigrated to France. Member of A.M. Remizov's Chamber of Monkeys ('Egyptian Plenipotentiary').
