KPM Berlin Belle Epoque jardiniere with soft painting and putti
Oval, rocaille-shaped, curved body with irregularly undulating or smoothly curving rim. Handles nestling into the curved bowl shape like volutes on the sides. Corresponding boys with flowering branches sitting on the mouth and their capes. Large-scale arrangement of blooming wild roses and azalea blossoms on the wall in fine, pastel-coloured soft painting. Delicate mint-coloured partial ground. Gold staffage. Designed by Burckhardt Apel, 1891. model no. 3593. indistinct painter's monogr.; year mark. Minimally chipped/remnant; sceptre and painter's mark. H. 21 cm x 38 cm x 18 cm.
"Soft painting" describes a characteristic type of flower painting in rich, pastel colours with softly flowing hues, in which the motifs emerge in blurred contours from a misty, blurred ground.
