LA FONTAINE (J. de). CONTES - FABLES. Paris, Les Heures claires, 1966-1970. 9 volumes in-4°, velin bradel ivory, each first board is decorated with a large different drawing calligraphied in colour taking up an illustration from the work, smooth spine decorated throughout with a small character calligraphied in colour and gilt scrolls, gilt head, edged slipcases. Remarkable set illustrated with numerous fine in-text colour compositions by Henry Lemarié. One of 2850 numbered copies on vélin de Rives for the Fables (n°722) and one of 114 numbered copies on vélin de Rives for the Contes (n°92), to which we have added to each of the volumes: 1 suite in colour, 1 suite in black with note of the line engraved on copper, 1 suite in black and 1 colour breakdown. The first two volumes are enriched with a handwritten letter from the illustrator. Spotting on a few pages, minor rubbing, otherwise a fine copy in very decorative bindings (Monod II, 6699-6728).
