First edition. A precious enriched copy, given to Lhéritier, the principal actor who contributed to the success of the play. It contains a visiting card from Eugène Labiche glued to the front cover, with this handwritten note signed: Mon cher Lhéritier, c'est vous et vos camarades qui m'ont avancé le fauteuil, c'est pourquoi je vous envoie mes remerciements les plus affectueux. Inscription in gilded letters on the first endpaper: Hommage à L'Héritier. His Nephew and Niece. 1869. Handwritten note pasted on the title signed: A L'Héritier - des grands comédiens nos bien vifs remerciements Eugène Labiche. Alfred Delacour. The volume is also decorated with a delightful original watercolour depicting Lhéritier in the role, dressed in full regalia: sticky trousers, white satin waistcoat, jabot and claque. It is signed HD (Honoré Daumier). A period photograph shows him in the same outfit. A very fine copy, with a few scattered spots.
