One of the editions with the date of the original. Laclos's masterpiece was so successful on publication that no fewer than sixteen editions, both legitimate and pirated, appeared under the date 1782. This is the K edition in Max Brun's typology: "an excellent copy made from the original" whose "text it scrupulously follows", writes the bibliographer. He adds: "It deserves praise because it is well printed on good quality watermarked paper. Scattered foxing and spotting; small loss in the margin of one leaf (t. I, p. 9).
