LAENNEC (René). Traité de l'auscultation médiate et des maladies des poumons et du cœur. Paris, J.-S. Chaudé, 1826. 2 volumes in-8, fawn half calf, smooth spine decorated, speckled edges (Binding of the period). Second edition, partly original, of this reference work. Laennec laid the foundations for a new medicine by founding a veritable doctrine of auscultation. In particular, he advocated the use of the stethoscope, which he invented. This second edition has been extensively revised. In particular, the author has completely changed the order followed in the 1819 edition and has attempted to provide a complete treatise on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the thoracic organs. In his new preface, the author takes the opportunity to respond to his detractors, in particular Broussais. The edition is illustrated with four double-page plates engraved by Ambroise Tardieu. Hinges cracked in the first volume; foxing. In French in the text, n°226 - Norman, n°1255 - Waller, n°5493.
