Lambertini, Prospero (Pope Benedict XIV). Venice, appresso Francesco Pitteri, 1760. The work comprises: Tome One. Tome Two. Both frontispieces have a refined central intaglio vignette within a baroque frame and the indication 'Con licenza de' Superiori, e Privilegio'. Binding: Coeval muted paperback in marbled or decorated paper, with period manuscript titles on the spines ('Lambertini Notificazioni'). The state of the binding is to be considered precarious, with large gaps in the paper covering and partially uncovered spines. Historical notes: Valuable collection of legislative and pastoral acts of Prospero Lambertini, one of the most learned and influential pontiffs of the 18th century. The volumes document his administrative and reforming activities during his long archbishopric in Bologna, before his accession to the papal throne. Pitteri's Venetian edition is noted for its typographic quality and clarity of type. Condition: Study specimens with fresh, marginalised interiors, despite external defects. Notable: Tired bindings with significant deficiencies to the spine and abrasions to the plates. Sporadic flourishing and natural signs of age that do not affect the integrity of the text.
