Edition decorated with 46 etchings by Carlos Schwabe, wood-engraved culs-de-lampe and floral frames. Limited edition of 166 numbered copies, this one of 50 on Arches wove paper (no. 21) including a suite of the etchings before the letter, a suite on wove paper of the 42 unused floral frames and a state of all the culs-de-lampe contained in the work, copies bound by the publisher in mauve seeded calf or in leaves in a slipcase (no. 21). "Edition estimated and quoted in large paper" (Carteret). A precious copy enriched with the following documents: - an original drawing signed by Schwabe in pencil, depicting an allegory of Liberty in shackles. - an autograph letter signed by Lamennais to a friend, dated 1819, alluding to a publishing project. - a two-page leaflet announcing the publication of the work. The copy was included in the exhibition "Neue Kunst in der Schweiz zu Beginn unseres Jahrhunderts" at the Kunsthaus Zürich in 1967 (no. 235). Binding slightly rubbed and with minor spotting, mainly on the spine, spine a little unsolished, minor soiling and rare spotting on some leaves, slipcase a little damaged.
