RED SILK LAMPAS WITH CALLIGRAPHIC DECORATION
Egypt or Saudi Arabia, destined for the holy sites of Mecca and Medina, 20th century
Rectangular in shape, woven in red silk, superimposed zig-zag calligraphic bands woven in cream silk, in naskh and muhaqqaq scripts of different modules, framed, under glass.
Size: 112 x 80 cm (panel)
Inscriptions: the central band decorated with staggered medallions inscribed with the names of God "Ya Hannan", "Ya Mannan", the bands framing it at the top and bottom, inscribed with verse 96 of Sura 3, verse 114 of Sura 2, and the Shahada.
Provenance: London private collection, then by descent until 2024
