One of three Venetian editions based on the 1543 Lyon original of "these singular and curious paradoxes of which Charles Estienne has reproduced only part in the free translation he has given, and in which he has deliberately omitted the most licentious and impious passages" (Brunet). The title is decorated with an emblem representing a tree struck by lightning. A copy bearing the arms of Henry Spitalieri de Cessole (1810-1875), with his signature on a flyleaf.
