Small in-8, blond calf, triple gilt fillet, coat of arms in the centre, spine decorated, interior fillet, gilt edges (19th century binding). One of three Venetian editions based on the 1543 Lyon original of "these singular and curious paradoxes of which Charles Estienne has reproduced only part in the free translation he has given, and in which he has deliberately omitted the most licentious and impious passages" (Brunet). The title is decorated with an emblem representing a tree struck by lightning. A copy bearing the arms of Henry Spitalieri de Cessole (1810-1875), with his signature on a flyleaf.
