LARGE ATTIC RED-FIGURE BELL-KRATER Ca. 420-380 BC. A late Attic bell-shaped krater featuring two main decorations. On side A, two soldiers are depicted in heroic nudity while holding spears. Behind the warrior on the left is a tall Nike holding a Patera as an offering. The depiction of the bodies is extremely schematic with the muscular masses represented frontally. On side B, three figures wearing cloaks are depicted, maintaining the pattern of one figure on one side and two on the other. The drapery is represented with simple vertical black lines. A stylised laurel wreath is under the rim of the vessel. Size: 410mm x 380mm; Weight: 5.79kg. Provenance: Property of a central London gallery; Ex. Harlan Berk Gallery, Chicago, IL. US Art market prior to 2000. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
