LARGE BYZANTINE SILVER-GILT APPLIQUÉ DEPICTING SAINT LUKE AND THE BULL. Ca. AD 1300 - 1400. An Important silver-gilt repoussé appliqué from a Bible depicting Saint Luke seated with a halo, holding a book in his left hand and a stylus in his right, with a bull at his side. He wears long robes articulated with crisp folds. Small perforations run along the irregular border. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 1989.87a–l.
