LARGE INDUS VALLEY JAR WITH BIRDS AND LIONS. Ca. 2500 - 2200 BC. A large terracotta jar with a wide rounded mouth, a broad shoulder, and a tapering lower wall finishing in a low disc foot. Two encircling painted registers decorate the shoulder and mid-body: the upper shows lions and zebu bulls, while the lower presents long-necked birds. The ornament is in black with red, blue and green infills on a buff ground, all bounded by fine horizontal lines. For similar see: A.
