LARGE LATE ROMAN INSCRIBED AGATE CAMEO IN GOLD RING. Ca. AD 400 - 500. A rare and large inscribed agate religious cameo set in a substantial gold ring of a possibly later period. The oval gem is carved with three registers of Greek letters, enclosed by a chevron border and flanked by small crosses above and below. The ring has a thick, rounded hoop that expands to broad shoulders and is fitted with an elevated oval collet with a rope-twist fillet. Inscription: "_____ ______ __ _____" - The Lord helps his servant.
