LARGE ROMAN BRONZE OIL LAMP WITH BULL ON THE HANDLE AND BIRD ON THE LID.
Ca. AD 300 - 500. A heavy bronze oil lamp with a rounded body, elongated nozzle ending in a broad spout, and pierced side lugs. The hinged lid is surmounted by a small bird, while the curved handle terminates in a bull’s head with forward-curving horns. Size: 160mm x 80mm; Weight: 485g Provenance: Private London collection, acquired on the German art market, 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
