Lot no. 62
Large tortoiseshell box with engraved decoration and silver mounts, wooden core. Novohispanic work. Mexico. 17th century.   This piece was undoubtedly intended for a large noble family, given the large size of the magnificent tortoiseshell plates and the careful attention to detail, both in the silver applications on the upper handle, keyhole, and corner pieces, and in the delicate engraved decoration depicting animals, suns, and borders. 14,5 x 21 x 13,5 cm.
