Lot no. 51
The Assumption of the Virgin
Flemish tapestry, probably Bruges around 1620
H.207cm x 194cm
Woven in wool and silk
The Virgin rises into the sky, surrounded by cherubs, while on the ground, the apostles kneel around the empty tomb, looking up to the heavens. Saint Peter can be recognised by the keys beside him.
This beautiful fragment still retains its vivid colours. However, it shows a tear, restoration and discolouration.
