LATE ROMAN BRONZE OIL LAMP ON HIGH STAND. Ca. AD 400 - 600. A cast bronze lamp attached to a bronze tripod stand that is composed of two parts. The lamp features an elegant handle made of two tendrils that curl upwards and meet at a floral motif over the body of the vessel. The tripod has a rounded disc beneath the lamp to catch any dripping oil. It stands on a rounded base with three short, paw-like legs extending from its sides. Size: 335mm x 170mm; Weight: 1.44kg. Provenance: Private UK collection, acquired on the Dutch art market in the 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
